Supreme Court hears Church v. Woman Fired for sleeping case
Do The Supreme Court look to praise separation of church and state when it benefits secularism but throw out separation of church and state when it benefits the religion?
WASHINGTON - … The case, Hosanna-Tabor Church v. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, No. 10-553, was brought by Cheryl Perich, who had been a teacher at a Michigan school run by a Lutheran church when she was given a diagnosis of narcolepsy. She said she was fired for pursuing an employment discrimination claim based on her disability (New York Times, Oct. 5 2011). Read more
After reading the article, you tell me if I’m crazy but the woman filing the claim(Cheryl Perich) seems to have been fired due to falling asleep on the job. How this made it to The Supreme Court is confusing, firing a teacher for falling asleep on the job seems understandable not discrimination. If a delivery driver was diagnosed with narcolepsy, he would be fired as well, and rightfully so.

I agree with you here. I don’t think that this is really about religion at all, it is just an excuse. Much as I would like to get government out of the decision when it comes to churches, I don’t think this is appropriate!
How can anyone reasonably think that they could hold a job with this kind of disability? You simply cannot have a teacher falling asleep in a room full of kids.
Sometimes I think people use their disabilities as a tool for revenge. Seriously, does anyone really think it’s reasonable that a narcoleptic would even apply for such a job? Sheesh.
