Once again here I am, rebutting a liberal professors “facts”. In one of my Political Science classes the professor discussed the first Presidential debate of 2012, I thought we would spend a lot of time on it but we spent 90 percent of the class going over past Presidential debates. But anyway we got into a back-in-forth on media bias that I wanted to share with those who care about todays media bias and what’s going on in college classrooms throughout America. The above video helped me with my rebuttal.
The conversation went like this:
Professor: Was there a clear knock-out blow by Romney?
Mike: No clear knock-out blow, but when Romney said the comment about having 5 boys that thought if they told a lie over and over, it would become truth, was a nice haymaker.
Professor: But a no knock-out?
Mike: Well if Romney did deliver a knock-out blow, the media would not report it as such. They would try their best to protect the election of Obama.
Professor: I think that comes from your preconceived bias that the media support Democrats. There are no studies are research that says that media reports with a left tilt.
Mike: Research has shown when asked, people in the media are overwhelmingly Democrat.
Professor: But being Democrat does not correlate individuals in the media being bias toward Democrats. There is no research that has shown that.
Not that it mattered, this professor will most likely continue to push the idea that there is no media bias benefiting Democrats but I had to show some research that proved his belief was wrong. So I put together an email and sent to him which is inserted below.
Email
Professor,
Please excuse the length of email, it started off short. Just wanted to shoot you a friendly email regarding my stance on media bias. I am not a blind ideologue, and did not just pull the media bias in favor of Democrats comment from mid-air. I formalized my beliefs through Political Science research, Pew studies and of course the obvious biases portrayed during elections such as the McCain (Palin) v. Obama, where Obama’s relations to self-described Communist Van Jones and the racist-wacko Reverend Wright got limited media attention, but the moment Pat Robertson or Rush Limbaugh said anything that appeared damaging to Republicans, it gained top-billing and was framed as a “guilty by association” relationship. And of course there was the media rape of Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman. All the while the walking gaff machine and winner of “Last Comic Standing”, Joe Biden continues to be ignored. Biden has used slave analogies, talked down to Black audiences while signaling his inner-Black preacher, and the media turns its head and looks the other way.
As a Democrat, I knew and appreciated the bias, I knew we had the media and Hollywood on our side. But now as a Republican I know it for what it was then and what it remains now, a not-so sneaky manipulation of the electorates political beliefs, values and dispositions. The media clearly understands its role as shepherds tending the sheep.
The argument that because most people in the media are Democrats, does not make them put out news benefiting Democrats is a good point. But unlike you, I believe those in the media believe, “With great powers, come great responsibilities” and they aim to shape and help the Progressive/Liberal cause, to them it’s a moral issue. Professor of Political Science and Economics at UCLA, Tim Groseclose has written a book “Left Turn” based on his research of media bias. Here’s a link if you would like to see what his research revealed. http://www.prageruniversity.com/Political-Science/Proving-Media-Bias.htmlhttp://www.prageruniversity.com/Political-Science/Proving-Media-Bias.html
- Today, by greater than two-to-one (60% to 26%), more say the press is biased. (Pew)
- The balance of opinion about whether news organizations are liberal or conservative has changed little since 1985. At that time, about twice as many said the press was liberal than conservative (40% vs. 19%). That continues to be the case today (50% vs. 22%), although somewhat more people offer an opinion about this issue than did so then. (Pew)

That was the end of email, I hope my grades are not affected, I guess I’ll just have to study harder. I had to let the professor know that “hell yeah there is a media bias benefiting Democrats”.

I can certainly understand why your professor didn’t see a media bias toward Democrats. When we have a bias, we are naturally inclined to support our bias and see information – even facts – through that bias. everyone is biased in one fashion or another. So, wanna bet that the professor is also a liberal (even Marxist) Democrat? What’s his political bias???? Yep!
What’s going on Mr. Rice?
Yes, he’s a Democrat, he’s a speech writer. you are right, we see the world through our filter lenses. but I believe this professor knows there is a media bias, he’s simply trying to mislead young students into believing the media reports fairly. That way students will not question what they get from media.
No better way to hide our bias than by being passing it on to others under the guise of education! Keep on keeping the faith.
You may never change your professor’s perspective, but you have hopefully presented some well substantiated truth to another student. Excellent article.
Yes, you are right, the profesor might never change but I sure like seeing him sweat a little. I want him to know I’m not one he can say anything to.
That rocked! I loved the video, and your letter was wonderful. You presented so much information and backed up everything you believed with evidence. I hope your prof’s eyes get opened!
I learned through trial and error that in order to silence liberal policy pimps, you have to present science (research), that’s all they accept. And when liberals don’t accept science they will not accept anything, they are just bias.
Mike, you delivered the knockout blow! Good job my friend!
He has not tried to challenge the facts I gave him. That lie about no media bias will at least not be told in that class again, while I’m there. Thanks my friend.
